Monetization is the name of the game

Google AdSense provides a 'killer app' in terms of allowing publishers of web sites to drive monetization of the content within those web sites. It doesn't matter if the site is a blog (like this one) or a corporate mega-site, AdSense can be used to drive revenue via content monetization.

It's all about eyeballs. You've put in the work to attract them, you've held their attention, you may even have earnt their loyalty. Now you want their money!

But it isn't as simple as just dialing up an AdSense account and copy/pasting the AdSense HTML fragment into the source code for your website. Why? Well, its complicated!

For instance, Google AdSense doesn't just slurp and use your content as soon as you've created it. You can create a web page, set it up for AdSense and let it sit for a month. Now repeat the excercize - create a second identical page with an identical AdSense HTML snippet. Call up both pages in a browser and look carefully at the displayed ads - you'll see a marked difference in the quality of the displayed ads.

Don't believe me? Try it out for yourself and see!
